It can be difficult to break into the horror writing industry both in book and short story formats. When you get your
first professional short story written, you can join the Horror Writers Association, a organization dedicated to furthering the careers of horror writers and also hold the Bram Stoker Awards every year.
I became a member a couple of years ago and it has been one of the best decisions for my horror career. The association is made up entirely of writers in all stages of professional development. Many are just starting out and have the same questions and fears that you do. Others have agents and books deals and can provide those answers that you desperately need.
There are also publishing opportunities available exclusively for members. There are yearly dues, but in comparison to the valuable tools and experience available, it's really quite a deal. Along with being able to suggest entries for the Stoker Awards, you may able be able to vote on the choices. I have made many friends through the HWA and while by writing career is advancing a slow pace, I can always trust my friends for words of encouragement.
It doesn't matter if you are new to horror writing or an old hat, the HWA has tools that you can use. It's a one-stop shop for all things horror and good friends too.
