I have a lot of writer friends that are spending much of their time writing zombie books and short stories. Even I admit
to having a few in the hopper, with one book on the horizon. Most of them are offshoots of the old standard with a trick or two mixed in to keep things interesting.
I mean, the whole zombie apocalypse thing has been done. David Dunwoody brought death into the mix...literally. The grim reaper himself comes to Earth to help dispatch the undead hordes in “Empire” and “Empire's End.”
The reaper is a unique take on zombie fiction and his prose is entertaining. He's crafted some good characters, but the reaper doesn't truly shine until the second book. Both are great books and available on Amazon.com.
Kim Paffenroth is a religious studies professor who moonlights as an awesome horror writer.
His Dying to Live books don't focus on the zombies or even surviving the zombies, but living in a world with zombies. The group has a pretty good life and cleared out much of the zombies, but they have to deal with prisoners, other factions and their own inner battles.
Kim's work is a stellar example of zombie fiction. I enjoy his books far more than any others in the genre, and I suggest you read them as well. You will not be disappointed in either their quality or suspense. You can also find his books on Amazon.com, and both authors are on Facebook. Kim's got some great personal and political views that he has no problem sharing.
